Overview
This 8 CE Contact Hour seminar provides the foundation for all
seminars in the series. It is available four times. Attendance is
required only once prior to attending all other seminars.
This seminar begins with a brief history of
our current understanding of Myofascial
Pain Syndrome (MPS). We then continue
with an in-depth exploration of the physiology
of muscle and fascia designed to
provide participants with a deeper understanding
of the pathophysiology of Myofascial
Trigger Points (MTrPs).
The elements of a comprehensive
treatment protocol are explained
in detail leaving the participant
with a foundation for treating
acute and chronic pain. The protocol
will provide a fool-proof method
for converting a ‘hunch’ into a
‘clinical impression’.
MPS can mimic the diagnoses of many
common pain syndromes. Likewise, serious
pathological syndromes can mimic myofascial
pain. As a result, the concept of Differential
Diagnosis will be addressed.
The seminar concludes with a dissection
of the Trigger Point Manuals written by Doctors
Travell and Simons. These texts are
required reading for the Certification Exam.
| “The knowledge and experience of these two people is phenomenal and
overwhelming. I feel like I’ve learned so much and yet didn’t even
scratch
the surface. George and Vicky are both so generous with their
knowledge.” Linda Sullivan, DOM - Albuquerque, New Mexico |
Objectives
Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:
- Attend any Core Seminar in the MyoRehab Seminar Series
- Describe muscle physiology and neurophysiology of MTrPs
- Recognize the most common factors that precipitate and
perpetuate MPS
- Identify Perpetuating Factors and apply Corrective Actions
- Relate elements of the MTrP Therapy Treatment Protocol to
the clinical characteristics of MTrPs
- Use a goniometer for Range of Motion (ROM) Testing
- Develop a clinical impression essential
to establishing a sound treatment plan
- Demonstrate Manual Techniques to
successfully inactivate Trigger Points
- Understand the principles of the Home
Exercise Program as an integral part of
a functional treatment
- Expand your knowledge
at your own pace by learning how
to navigate confidently through Myofascial
Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger
Point Manual, Volume 1 and 2.
These two comprehensive texts are essential
for the serious practitioner and essential
study guide for each seminar test.
“This course far exceeded my expectations (which were pretty high).
This is the first course in many years where the physiology of the
neuromuscular
system has been so well and thoroughly explained and repeated.
Thank you so much! I am on my way to practicing more effectively!
You are both excellent teachers.”
